Enignum canopy bed by Joseph Walsh

Beautiful work and amazing pictures by Joseph Walsh. The Enignum canopy bed by Joseph Walsh is a new piece to his Formations collection as it embraces and protects, creating a personal environment beyond its function. It invites the user to be sheltered in a natural translation indoors. The natural environment of sleeping under a canopy fed into his process; he explored cutting wood into thin layers and free form bending of the wood to its natural extension of elasticity. Not only does the process achieve a natural shelter but also exposes the humility and potential of how collaboration between man and material can create innovative products. Via Jatzer.

1340 G tablecloth by Christien Meindertsma

New in store is tablecloth 1340 G by Christien Meindertsma for the Dutch Textile museum. Designer Christien Meindertsma (1980) is fascinated by research into the origin of products, raw materials and the history and technology behind it. For her project FLOCKS she committed herself to knit to see how much sweaters she could make from the wool of a sheep. The sheep that produced the wool was honored by her with a passport and photograph, a duplicate of the ear tag and a rosette with ribbons. For her project PIG 05049, she studied the products which are made from a pig. She discovered strange things such as heart valves, brakes, chewing gum and cigarettes. Meanwhile she build her own label FLOCKS and she focuses mainly on designing knitwear apparel and interior products. Commissioned by the Textile Museum, she designed the 1340 G tablecloth especially for the 50th anniversary of the museum. In the middle of the tablecloth are shown the plants that supplied the material for the tablecloth such as flax, cotton plants, seaweed, banana and bamboo. On the napkins and on the short side of the tablecloth are the names of the plants woven including their country of origin.

Tablecloth "Do you like my Gucci sweater?" Hella Jongerius

Nice new drop of this great tablecloth woven in the Dutch Textile museum. In 2002 Hella Jongerius designed this damask tablecloth "Do you like my Gucci sweater?" for the Dutch Textile Museum. Her work which arises from the design studio JongeriusLab is a result of the combination of craft and industry, high-tech and low-tech. Hella Jongerius is not looking for smooth or polished, she likes a clear “statement”. She refers with her design of the damask table set to the fashion world, dominated by skinny models, who often show a form of anorexia. The title is an obvious reference to the culture where appearance is paramount. Pictured are pointy hip bones of girls who find themselves as attractive. At the head of the tablecloth a list of dishes is shown with associated calories while the napkins contain "etched" drawings of hearts, each with a different table calories. The raw theme is put to the frayed seams. Now available in our Wannekes online store.
